SelfDecode DNA Collection: Cheek Swab or Saliva?

SelfDecode uses state-of-the-art cheek (buccal) swab DNA test kits for accuracy, ease, and comfort. This collection method is simple, painless, and works for people of all ages.

Why cheek swabs?

Each SelfDecode kit includes sterile, soft-tip swabs that gently collect DNA-rich cells from the inside of your cheek. This method is:

• Highly reliable for DNA extraction
• Simple and painless — no spitting or measuring fluid
• Suitable for all ages, including children and anyone who may have difficulty providing a saliva sample

If you have an older saliva-based kit

We no longer accept saliva sample DNA kits purchased before August 2024. If you have an older kit, email support@selfdecode.com and we will help you get a replacement cheek swab kit at a reduced price.

How long until you get results?

Once your sample reaches the laboratory, your results are typically ready within 2–3 weeks.
