Why do I see more SNPs on my SelfDecode account than in my downloaded DNA file?

The DNA file you can download from your account contains the SNPs that were directly tested using our DNA microarray chip.

However, when you view your data on the SelfDecode platform, you may notice additional SNPs. That’s because we use a process called genetic imputation, which allows us to estimate additional SNPs based on your existing genetic data and known genetic patterns. This provides a more complete picture of your genetic makeup and allows us to generate more detailed health insights.

Also, in some cases, if certain SNPs had inconclusive results during testing—such as conflicting readings from different probes—they may be excluded from your downloadable file. However, we may still be able to estimate these SNPs through imputation and display them on the platform.

So in short:

  • Your downloaded file = directly tested SNPs
  • What you see in your SelfDecode reports = direct SNPs + additional SNPs estimated through imputation
