What is GWAS?
A genome-wide association study (GWAS) is a research method that identifies genetic variants associated with a specific trait or health condition. Researchers use it for complex traits that result from many genes and environmental factors working together.
How GWAS Works
In a GWAS, scientists compare the DNA of people who have a trait (like diabetes) to people who don't. If a certain variant is more common in people with the trait, that variant is said to be "associated" with it.
GWAS studies usually need to include thousands of people to identify these genetic associations reliably.
