Is my DNA sample anonymous?
Yes, your DNA sample is handled anonymously. To protect your privacy and security, DNA kits are never labeled with your name or personal identifying information. Instead, each kit is assigned a unique barcode that lets us match your sample to your SelfDecode account.
That barcode is:
- Used solely to connect your sample to your account
- Encrypted within our system
- Accessible only through SelfDecode's secure internal database
This means your DNA sample is identified by a code, not by your identity, and cannot be traced back to you by name.
