How to Download Your Raw DNA File from 23andMe

Step 1: Log in to Your 23andMe Account

To access your raw DNA file, start by logging in to your 23andMe account.

  1. Go to the 23andMe website and click Sign In.
  2. Enter the email address and password associated with your account.
  3. Once logged in, you’ll be taken to your 23andMe dashboard.

Forgot your password?

Click “Forgot your password?” on the login page and follow the instructions sent to your email to reset it. After resetting, return to the login page and sign in.

Step 2: Download Your 23andMe Raw Data File

Once logged in:

  1. Click the arrow or profile icon next to your name in the top-right corner.
  2. Select “Browse Raw Data” from the dropdown menu.
  3. On the Raw Data page, select the “Download” tab.
  4. Check the box confirming that you understand you are responsible for securely storing and protecting your genetic data.
  5. Click “Submit Request.”

After submitting your request:

  • 23andMe will send an email to the address associated with your account.
  • The email will contain a secure download link to your raw DNA file.
  • Delivery may take a few minutes to a few days (and occasionally longer), so check your spam folder if you don’t see it right away.

Important:

For security reasons, always download your raw DNA file on a private device and secure internet connection. Avoid using public or shared computers.

Step 3: Upload Your File to SelfDecode

Once you’ve downloaded your file:

  1. Go to your SelfDecode dashboard: www.selfdecode.com/app/dashboard
  2. Click “Upload DNA File.”
  3. Select your 23andMe raw data file and complete the upload.
