How can I check the status of my DNA sample?

We know you're excited to receive your DNA results, and we appreciate your patience while your sample is processed! Here’s what to expect and how you can track its progress.

Shipping Time

After you’ve sent your kit back using the provided return label, shipping times will vary depending on your location:

  • Domestic shipments typically take 5-10 business days.
  • International shipments can take 10-15 business days.

Turnaround Time for Results

DNA results typically take 3-5 weeks after your sample is delivered to the lab. The processing timeline includes several steps, and we’ll keep you informed along the way.

How to Track Your Sample’s Delivery

If your return label included a tracking number, you can verify when your sample was delivered to the lab by checking the tracking details. This is the fastest way to confirm that your sample has arrived.

Storage, Processing, & Lab Updates

Once your sample is delivered to the lab, it is securely stored while it awaits its turn in the processing queue. This typically takes about 2 weeks, as samples are processed in batches.

When your sample is ready to be analyzed, it will be officially marked as Received in our system, and you’ll receive an email notification at that time.

After analysis is complete, we’ll send another email letting you know that your results are ready and available in your account. This will typically be 1-3 weeks after the last email update.

Need an Update?

If it has been longer than the estimated 3-5 week timeframe, feel free to contact our support team at support@selfdecode.com for an update. However, we kindly ask for your patience as we work through the processing timeline.

Please note: If you’re checking on your sample before the lab has updated its status to Received (which takes about two weeks after delivery), the only way to verify its arrival is through the tracking number on your return label. Our team relies on the same method to confirm delivery. Once the lab processes your sample, you’ll automatically receive an email confirmation — so we recommend checking your tracking and waiting for that update!
