How can I check the status of my DNA sample?
You can track your DNA sample's progress right from your SelfDecode account dashboard. Here's what to expect at each stage, from shipping to results.
Shipping times
After you ship your kit back with the provided return label, shipping typically takes:
- Domestic (US) shipments: 5-10 business days
- International (non-US) shipments: 10-15 business days
Lab processing timeline
DNA results typically take 2-3 weeks after your sample arrives at the lab. Processing includes several steps, and we'll keep you informed along the way. You can check the status anytime on your SelfDecode account dashboard — it's the same status our Customer Support team sees.
Track your sample's delivery
If your return label included a tracking number, use it to confirm when your sample was delivered to the lab. This is the fastest way to verify arrival.
Lab storage, processing, and updates
Once delivered, your sample is securely stored while it waits its turn in the processing queue — usually about one week, since samples are processed in batches.
When your sample is ready for analysis, we'll mark it as Received in our system and send you an email.
After analysis is complete, you'll get another email letting you know your results are ready — typically 1-3 weeks after the previous update.
Need an update?
If it's been longer than the estimated 3-week timeframe after your sample was delivered to the lab, contact our support team at support@selfdecode.com. We appreciate your patience as we work through processing.
Note: Before the lab updates your sample status to Received (about 1-2 weeks after confirmed delivery), the only way to verify arrival is through your return label's tracking number. Once the lab processes your sample, you'll automatically receive an email — so we recommend checking your tracking and waiting for that confirmation.
