Will My Results Change Over Time?
Your DNA does not change over time. The genetic variants you inherit remain the same throughout your life. However, some scores, risk assessments, and recommendations within SelfDecode may change—and this is completely normal.
Why Results Can Change
SelfDecode continuously updates its analysis models as new and larger scientific studies become available. As research improves, we refine how genetic variants are weighted and interpreted. When this happens:
- Scores and gauges may be recalculated
- Risk levels may shift slightly based on new research or added user data
- Recommendations may be updated or refined
These changes are most noticeable for results that are close to a cut-off or borderline.
DNA vs. Gene Expression
While your DNA itself stays the same, gene expression can change. Gene expression refers to how actively certain genes are "turned on" or "turned off" in your body, which can be influenced by:
- Diet and nutrition
- Lifestyle habits
- Environment
- Stress, sleep, and activity levels
SelfDecode's recommendations are designed to help support healthier gene expression—even though your underlying DNA remains unchanged. The main way to determine whether your gene expression has changed is to test and compare current lab biomarkers to previous periods.
What This Means for You
Changes in scores or recommendations don't mean your DNA has changed or that previous results were wrong. Instead, they reflect:
- Better scientific data
- Improved analysis methods
- A more accurate understanding of how genetics influences health
Our goal is to give you the most up-to-date and reliable insights as science evolves.
