Why a Sale May Not Have Tracked

There are a few common reasons a sale may not track automatically to your affiliate link:

  1. The buyer didn't click your link directly before purchasing. Tracking relies on a cookie being set when someone clicks your link. If they navigated to SelfDecode another way (typed in the URL directly, used a bookmark, clicked a different link), the cookie wouldn't be set.
  2. Cookies were blocked or cleared. If the buyer uses a browser with strict privacy settings, an ad blocker, or cleared their cookies between clicking and purchasing, the tracking cookie may not have carried through.
  3. The purchase happened on a different device or browser. Cookies are device- and browser-specific. If someone clicked your link on mobile but completed the purchase on desktop (or vice versa), the sale won't track back to you automatically.
  4. The 90-day cookie window had passed. Our tracking cookie lasts 90 days from the click — if the purchase happened after that window, it won't attribute to your link.

The good news is that if you know someone made a purchase through your recommendation, we can add the commission manually — we just need the email address they used at checkout. Feel free to send those over to affiliates@selfdecode.com and we'll take care of it.

Going forward, the best practice is to encourage people to click your link right before they're ready to purchase, or to let us know once a referral converts so we can verify it tracked correctly.
