The Report Shop: How It Works

Here’s everything you need to know about how to get started with the SelfDecode Report Shop, what you can order, and how we’ll support you along the way.


What is the Report Shop?

The Report Shop is a simple, one-time purchase option for people who want access to SelfDecode reports or DNA kits without a subscription. It’s great if you’re just getting started or only want one or two specific reports.

Already a SelfDecode member?

The Report Shop is designed for new customers. If you already have a SelfDecode account, you can access the same reports and DNA kits directly from your account— no need to use the Report Shop.

What Can I Buy?

You can purchase:

  • A DNA kit, which includes lab analysis of your sample and access to your genetic data. A SelfDecode DNA kit purchased through the Shop is required in order to access any reports in the Report Shop.
  • Single reports, such as Weight, Anxiety, Inflammation, and many more.

You do not need a subscription to buy from the Report Shop, but you do need to purchase a DNA kit.


Do I Need a SelfDecode Subscription?

No. All products in the Report Shop are one-time purchases. If you ever decide you want access to more features, you can upgrade to a subscription later by emailing support@selfdecode.com — but it’s not required.

You will have access to any reports indefinitely. You can also download them as PDFs.


How Do I Get Started?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Place your order through the Report Shop. Remember to include a DNA kit.
  2. If you remembered to include a DNA kit, you’ll receive it in the mail.
  3. Register your kit using the instructions included.
  4. Return your kit using the instructions provided.
    1. US Customers: A prepaid return label is included in your kit.
    2. Non-US Customers: Please contact our support team after you receive your kit — we’ll help you request a return label.
  5. Once your sample is processed, you’ll be able to view your report(s) in your secure online account.

Collecting Your Sample

IMPORTANT: Please do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, or chew gum for at least 1 hour before collecting your sample. If you forget, please email us to purchase a replacement kit.

US Customers: Buccal (Cheek) Swab DNA Test Kit

  1. Follow the provided instructions to collect your cheek cell samples:

  1. Place the samples in the biohazard bag and then into the return envelope.
  2. Use the prepaid return label included with your kit to return the sample to our lab.
  3. Results will be ready within 3-5 weeks. You will receive an email notification once your results are available.

Non-US Customers: Buccal (Cheek) Swab DNA Test Kit

  1. Scan the QR code on the kit box or visit www.selfdecode.com/en/instructions/ for detailed collection instructions.

  1. Insert the swab into the clear plastic bag, and fold over the top to seal the bag with the barcode sticker provided in your kit.

Important note: If your sample is not labelled with the provided barcode sticker, the lab will have no way to know it's yours and you will need to purchase a replacement kit.

  1. Place the sealed bag into the mailer envelope.
  2. Request your pre-paid return label here: www.selfdecode.com/app/request-return-label/
  3. Mail it back to us with the provided label.
  4. Results will be ready within 4-6 weeks. You will receive an email notification once your results are available.

Please be aware that we are unable to provide return labels for some countries at this time.

Return Labels & Shipping

DNA kits:

  • US Customers: A prepaid return label is included in your kit.
  • Non-US Customers: Please contact our support team after you receive your kit — we’ll help you request a return label.

Can I Upload DNA Data from Another Company?

Not through the Report Shop. These products are only for customers using a SelfDecode DNA kit processed through our lab and purchased through the Report Shop.

If you already have raw DNA data and want to use it with SelfDecode, please check out our main platform.


What If My Sample Has a Problem?

If your DNA sample isn’t usable for any reason:

  • You’ll see a “Contact Support” message in your Report Shop account
  • Our team will walk you through the next steps and make sure you're taken care of

Can I Add On More Reports Later?

Absolutely. You can add on more reports at any time.


Can I Access My Raw Data?

Yes! You can easily download your raw DNA file from within your Report Shop account!

To do this, simply:

  1. Sign into your Report Shop account at https://selfdecode.com/shop/
  2. On your My Results page, select Download next to You have an active DNA file:

  1. Your file will download.

Having log-in issues?

Check that you're not trying to log into the main SelfDecode website. You should be logging in to the Report Shop (https://selfdecode.com/shop/login/) if that's where you purchased from, not the main SelfDecode website.


Will you have Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotions?

Yes, we will be running a special promotional period for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Check our site https://selfdecode.com/shop/ for current pricing.


What Is the Refund Policy?

  • DNA Kits: DNA Kit purchases are non-refundable. Should you require a replacement DNA testing kit, you may email Customer Support (support@selfdecode.com) and provide the same information that you provided when you ordered your DNA Kit. Replacement kits are $25 per kit (plus applicable shipping and handling).
  • Reports: Reports are non-refundable.

What If I Want More Than One Kit?

You’re welcome to purchase multiple DNA kits or bundles, but please note:

Each kit needs to be registered under a separate account with its own login in order to access the results.

If you order multiple kits in the same purchase, our team will automatically reach out to help you get everything set up correctly. You can also contact us anytime at support@selfdecode.com for help registering and managing multiple kits.


Are the Reports Physical Products?

No, only the DNA kit is a physical product. The reports are downloadable PDFs.
