The Report Shop: How It Works
The Report Shop lets you purchase SelfDecode DNA kits and individual health reports as one-time purchases—no subscription required. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about ordering, collecting your sample, and accessing your results.
What is the Report Shop?
The Report Shop is a simple, one-time purchase option for people who want access to SelfDecode reports or DNA kits without a subscription. It’s a great starting point if you’re new to SelfDecode or only want a few specific reports.
Already a SelfDecode member? The Report Shop is designed for new customers. If you already have a SelfDecode account, you can access the same reports and DNA kits directly from your account—no need to use the Report Shop.
What can I buy in the Report Shop?
You can purchase:
- A SelfDecode DNA Kit, which includes lab analysis of your saliva sample and access to your genetic data. A DNA kit purchased through the Report Shop is required in order to access any reports.
- Individual health reports, such as Weight, Anxiety, Inflammation, and many more.
You do not need a subscription to buy from the Report Shop, but you do need to purchase a DNA kit.
Do I need a SelfDecode subscription?
No. All products in the Report Shop are one-time purchases. You’ll have access to any reports you purchase indefinitely and can download them as PDFs at any time.
If you ever decide you want access to more features, you can upgrade to a subscription later by emailing support@selfdecode.com—but it’s not required.
How do I get started?
- Place your order through the Report Shop. Make sure to include a DNA kit in your order.
- Receive your DNA kit in the mail.
- Register your kit using the instructions included in your package.
- Return your sample using the instructions provided:
- US customers: A prepaid return label is included in your kit.
- Non-US customers: Contact our support team after you receive your kit—we’ll help you request a return label.
- View your reports in your secure online account once your sample has been processed.
How do I collect my DNA sample?
Important: Do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, or chew gum for at least 1 hour before collecting your sample. If you forget, please email us to purchase a replacement kit.
US customers: Buccal (cheek) swab DNA test kit
- Follow the provided instructions to collect your cheek cell samples.

- Place the samples in the biohazard bag and then into the return envelope.
- Use the prepaid return label included with your kit to mail the sample back to our lab.
- Results will be ready within 3–5 weeks. You’ll receive an email notification once your results are available.
Non-US customers: Buccal (cheek) swab DNA test kit
- Scan the QR code on the kit box or visit selfdecode.com/en/instructions for detailed collection instructions.
- Insert the swab into the clear plastic bag, and fold over the top to seal the bag with the barcode sticker provided in your kit.
Important: If your sample is not labelled with the provided barcode sticker, the lab will have no way to identify it and you will need to purchase a replacement kit.
- Place the sealed bag into the mailer envelope.
- Request your prepaid return label at selfdecode.com/app/request-return-label.
- Mail it back to us using the provided label.
- Results will be ready within 4–6 weeks. You’ll receive an email notification once your results are available.
We are unable to provide return labels for some countries at this time. For a complete list and more information, see our list of countries without return labels.
How do return labels and shipping work?
- US customers: A prepaid return label is included in your kit.
- Non-US customers: Contact our support team after you receive your kit—we’ll help you request a return label.
Can I upload DNA data from another company?
Not through the Report Shop. Report Shop products are only available to customers using a SelfDecode DNA Kit purchased and processed through the Report Shop.
If you already have raw DNA data from another provider and want to use it with SelfDecode, check out our main platform instead.
What if my sample has a problem?
If your DNA sample isn’t usable for any reason, you’ll see a “Contact Support” message in your Report Shop account. Our team will walk you through next steps and make sure you’re taken care of.
Can I add more reports later?
Yes! You can purchase additional reports at any time through the Report Shop.
Can I access my raw DNA data?
Yes, you can download your raw DNA file directly from your Report Shop account.
- Sign in to your Report Shop account at selfdecode.com/shop.
- On your My Results page, select Download next to You have an active DNA file.

- Your file will download automatically.

Tip: Make sure you’re logging in to the Report Shop at selfdecode.com/shop/login—not the main SelfDecode website. These are separate accounts.
Will there be Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotions?
SelfDecode occasionally runs special promotions around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Check the Report Shop for current offers and pricing.
What is the refund policy?
- DNA Kits: DNA Kit purchases are non-refundable. If you need a replacement kit, email support@selfdecode.com with the same information you provided when you placed your original order. For current replacement kit pricing, please contact us at support@selfdecode.com.
- Reports: Report purchases are non-refundable.
What if I want more than one kit?
You’re welcome to purchase multiple DNA kits. Each kit needs to be registered under a separate account with its own login in order to access results.
If you order multiple kits in the same purchase, our team will automatically reach out to help you get everything set up. You can also contact us anytime at support@selfdecode.com for help registering and managing multiple kits.
Are the reports physical products?
No. Only the DNA kit is a physical product shipped to you. All reports are digital and can be viewed online or downloaded as PDFs.
