How to Order from the Report Shop

Ordering from the Report Shop takes five steps. The most important one is the first: make sure a DNA kit is in your order, because reports cannot be generated without one.

The five steps

1. Place your order through the Report Shop, and include a DNA kit.
2. Receive your DNA kit in the mail.
3. Register your kit using the instructions included in your package. This creates your Report Shop account.
4. Collect and return your sample — see how to collect and return your DNA sample.
5. View your reports in your Report Shop account once your sample has been processed. We will email you when they are ready.

Ordering more than one kit

You are welcome to buy multiple DNA kits — for family members, for example.

Each kit has to be registered under its own account with its own login, because each account holds one person’s DNA data and reports. Reports are also bought per account, so a report purchased on one account does not appear on another.

If you order several kits in a single purchase, our team will reach out to you automatically to help you get everyone set up. You can also email support@selfdecode.com at any point for help registering and managing multiple kits.

Tip: if you are registering a second kit on the same computer, use a private or incognito window, or a different browser. Registering two accounts back to back in the same window can carry the first sign-in over to the second.

Buying for someone else

You can buy a kit, or a kit plus reports, for someone else. You do not need their login, and you do not need to order from their account. What matters is who registers the kit, not who pays for it.

A DNA kit on its own

Order it from your own account. At checkout you can enter their address, or your own if you would rather give them the kit in person.

They then set up their own Report Shop account, register the kit’s barcode, and buy whatever reports they want from there.

A DNA kit plus reports

Buy the kit and the reports in the same order. The reports link to that kit, so they land wherever the kit is registered — it does not matter whose account the order was placed from. As above, the kit can be sent to them or to you.

We recommend logging out and checking out as a guest, so the order is kept separate from your own account.

Why this matters: reports bought in the same order as a kit follow that kit. Reports bought on their own attach to the account that buys them — so to add reports for someone later, buy them from their account once their kit is registered.
